Augusta Savage Community Fine Arts Program: Cuneiform Writing In-Person

In cooperation with the Friends of the Augusta Savage Arts & Community Center, the Green Cove Springs Branch Library is proud to offer a fine arts workshop series intended to bring local youth and their families a greater awareness of and hands-on experience with visual arts inspired by the legacy of Augusta Fells Savage.

This month's focus: Program participants will learn how to write in cuneiform on clay.  Cuneiform is one of the oldest forms of writing known. It means "wedge-shaped," because people wrote it using a reed stylus cut to make a wedge-shaped mark on a clay tablet. Cuneiform writing was used to record a variety of information such as temple activities, business and trade. Cuneiform was also used to write stories, myths, and personal letters.

Recommended for ages 6-11.  Class space is limited.
