Augusta Savage Community Fine Arts Program: In-Person

In cooperation with the Friends of the Augusta Savage Arts & Community Center, the Green Cove Springs Branch Library is proud to offer a fine arts workshop series intended to bring local youth and their families a greater awareness of and hands-on experience with visual arts inspired by the legacy of Augusta Fells Savage.

In honor of Black History month, the February session will focus on African American artist William H. Johnson’s portrait of Harriett Tubman from his Fighters for Freedom series which he painted in the mid-1940s as a tribute to African American activists, scientists, teachers, leaders, and performers. Students will recreate the Harriett Tubman portrait similar to Johnson’s using oil pastels. Emphasis will include line, color, texture, space, pattern, and movement.

Recommended for ages 6-11.  Class space is limited.
